DEATH GLARE
The piercing stare of a burrowing owl with jet black eyes.
A rare sight among these owls, which normally have bright yellow eyes, the black eyes are thought to be a result of a recessive trait or mutation. It is believed that this trait has had a greater chance to manifest due to the shallow genetic pool of the Florida burrowing owls, where the original image was taken, which are geographically isolated and more prone to inbreeding. The black eyes are not a part of the edit and are true to the original image. The only species of owl which lives underground, burrowing owls are found in pockets across the southern United States, where their numbers are decreasing.
DEATH GLARE captures the piercing and chilling stare of these unique birds.
